About

Mr Alexander Brent is a fully UK-trained Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina. He currently sees patients at Newmedica Barlborough, as well as Derby Private Health. After completing his ophthalmology training in the Midlands, he was awarded entry as a Fellow to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). He further refined his expertise through two specialist vitreoretinal fellowships at university teaching centres, enhancing his skills in complex cataract, emergency retinal, and elective macular surgery.  He can offer patients premium lens cataract surgery to eliminate the need for glasses.

Mr Brent has specialist expertise in cataracts, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, macular holes, ocular trauma, vitreomacular traction and intraocular lens dislocation. He provides a range of other treatments, including YAG laser capsulotomy, retinal laser and intravitreal injections for macular degeneration or diabetic eye disease.

As an appointed member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists examining board, Mr Brent is actively involved in training the ophthalmologists of the future. His passion for teaching has been recognized with an honorary lectureship from De Montfort University, Leicester.

Mr Brent is committed to providing the best possible care for his patients by utilising the most advanced surgical techniques and ensuring they have access to information to make informed decisions about their treatment.
