About

Mr Bhaskar Gupta is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. He sees private patients at Newmedica Eye Health Clinic: Whitley.

Over the course of his career, Mr Gupta has performed almost 20,000 cataract surgeries and nearly 3,000 vitrectomies. He is an experienced high-volume cataract surgeon with excellent results. He has extensive experience in the use of multifocal lenses to provide spectacle-free vision tailored to patients' needs and lifestyles.

Mr Gupta is actively involved in clinical research and leads research for vitreoretinal services at University Hospital Southampton. He is the Principal Investigator for multiple studies, including the EVIAN study (Early Vitrectomy and Intravitreal Antibiotics for postoperative exogenous endophthalmitis), TIGER study (Vitrectomy and subretinal therapy in patients with Wet Macular Degeneration), and DIAGRID (a commercial trial investigating a new Port Delivery System for sustained Anti-VEGF drug delivery in eyes with Wet AMD). He is also part of approved centres for gene therapy trials addressing macular degeneration and atrophy, as well as new gene therapy treatments for Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

Mr Gupta is committed to charitable work, supporting Khmer Sight in Cambodia and BKL Walawalkar Charitable Trust in India, where he teaches and performs cataract surgeries. He is also working to establish diabetic screening services in these regions.
