Mr Gerard Ainsworth is an experienced consultant ophthalmic surgeon with over 16 years of experience working within the NHS. He specialises in cataract surgery, having performed over 15,000 procedures, as well as the management of glaucoma and corneal disease. Mr Ainsworth is skilled in offering a range of lens options, including multifocal and extended depth of focus lenses to reduce spectacle dependence, and toric lenses for astigmatism correction. He also has extensive experience in corneal refractive laser surgery.
He has served as clinical director for ophthalmology at North Cumbria Integrated NHS Care Trust and has a keen interest in improving surgical outcomes and patient experience. Mr Ainsworth is known for being friendly and approachable, both with patients and colleagues.
A fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Mr Ainsworth sits on the faculty for microsurgical skills training, which involves mentoring junior surgeons. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in cataract and refractive surgery.
