About

Dr Muyiwa Owoniyi has extensive clinical expertise in managing general ophthalmic conditions, with a special focus on the medical, laser, and surgical management of glaucoma, complex cataract surgery, and high-volume cataract surgery.

He qualified as a doctor from the University of Birmingham and, after completing his initial junior doctor training, returned to teach anatomy at the university. Dr Owoniyi undertook his registrar training in the Wales deanery, during which he worked as an education fellow at the Imperial College NHS Trust and Western Eye Hospital in London.

Following his registrar training, Dr Owoniyi completed the prestigious glaucoma surgical training fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He now works as a consultant ophthalmologist and is the lead consultant for glaucoma at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust. In this role, he teaches and supervises students and practitioners, including the medical and surgical training of other ophthalmic surgeons, training glaucoma practitioners, and lecturing at the University of Keele.
