He has completed two internationally renowned glaucoma fellowships at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Norwich, UK, and at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. He holds the position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Norwich Medical School (University of East Anglia) and is the lead for Ophthalmology undergraduate training at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
Nuwan has a keen interest in both clinical and laboratory glaucoma research. He was awarded his research degree (Doctorate of Medicine MD) for developing a human organotypic retinal culture model for glaucoma research, a model that is successfully used at the University of East Anglia and University of Cambridge.
