Palpandian Viswanathan

I’m a highly skilled and experienced surgeon, specialising in cataract surgery and retinal surgery.

I obtained my Masters degree in ophthalmic surgery in India before moving to the UK for further training. I underwent ophthalmology training in London, Belfast and Nottingham, ultimately gaining membership and fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

 I was appointed as a consultant in 2010 and, since 2017, I’ve been a consultant ophthalmologist at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust, specialising in complex cataract surgery, including toric and multifocal lenses, and retinal surgery. I perform high volume cataract surgery, and I’ve gained vast experience in various aspects of general ophthalmology.

I’m also an educational and clinical supervisor for trainees at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust, actively involved in the surgical training of junior eye doctors, and a member of various ophthalmologist associations, presenting my work both nationally and internationally.

 I’m committed to continuously reviewing my results and auditing my outcomes to ensure they meet or exceed established standards and provide the highest quality of care to my patients in Shropshire.
