About

Mr Serafeim Antonakis is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with nearly a decade of experience within his field. He specialises VitreoRetinal and cataract surgery, dealing with issues such as retinal detachment, diabetic related eye issues and retinal vein occlusions. Serafeim is dedicated to constantly improving the patient experience and the best patient outcomes, proven by his dedication to his role. He currently treats private patients at the Spire Southampton Hospital.

Serafeim initially qualified as a doctor in Greece in 2002, and continually developed his his specialist skills and gained several post graduate qualifications, including his MSc, MD and Ophthalmology specialist training, which he completed in 2012. After this, he undertook this first VitreoRetinal fellowship in Kent, at the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, which is renowned for having the best specialised Eye Unit and training the best doctors in the world. He then undertook another VitreoRetinal fellowship at St. Thomas' Hospital under internationally acclaimed VitreoRetinal consultants, further improving his skills. After substantial training, Serafeim proved to be a true innovator in the delivery of patient care in ophthalmology, being responsible for the implementation of electronic diaries for VitroRetinal patients at University Hospital of Southampton, among other patient record systems within the Eye Unit. Serafeim has since been honoured for his accomplishments in the field with multiple awards and honorary positions at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital. In addition to this, he is also active in the teaching community and takes time to mentor trainee ophthalmologists and medical students.
