Miss Varajini Joganathan is an accomplished consultant ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeon with extensive expertise in eyelid, orbital (eye socket), and lacrimal (tear duct) surgeries. Her specialist interests include upper and lower eyelid (blepharoplasty) procedures, along with facial aesthetics for non-surgical facial and eye rejuvenation. In addition to her subspecialties, she provides care for a wide range of general ophthalmological conditions.
Miss Joganathan is known for her diligent, clear communication and her commitment to patient-centred care. She prioritises delivering exceptional outcomes with a caring, respectful, and approachable manner.
After earning her medical and surgical degree from the University of Dundee, Miss Joganathan underwent ophthalmology training within the Cambridge Deanery. She advanced her expertise through a triad of prestigious fellowship training programs in oculoplastic, orbital, and lacrimal surgery with world-leading experts at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, and the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. Additionally, she received training in non-surgical cosmetic procedures, including anti-wrinkle injections and skin rejuvenation injectables.
Since beginning her ophthalmology career in 2009, Miss Joganathan has held a consultant position at University Hospital Southampton and Lymington New Forest Hospital since 2019. Her work includes eyelid, tear duct, and orbital surgeries for both adults and children.
She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and the European Board of Ophthalmologists (FEBO) and is an active member of the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society (BOPSS). Her contributions to medical literature include numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences. She also serves as a reviewer for leading ophthalmological journals.
Miss Joganathan is passionate about education and mentorship, supervising ophthalmology trainees and fellows locally and nationally. She has facilitated national courses for healthcare professionals, sharing her expertise widely.
Her dedication extends beyond the UK through her involvement in international ophthalmology initiatives. She works with Orbis International Flying Eye Hospital, contributing to projects in developing nations, reflecting her commitment to improving global eye health.
