If you decide to go ahead with your treatment this will take place at Newmedica Shrewsbury by our expert consultant ophthalmologists. Your surgery will typically be within two weeks from initial consultation.

There are two ways you can access private treatment at Newmedica:

Newmedica are recognised by all of the leading private medical insurers. We recommend calling your insurer to check that you're covered for cataract surgery, and that you're able to get treatment at Newmedica. They may need your optician or GP to refer you to us. How to get to us

By car

Overton, Wrexham

Driving from Whitchurch:

follow the A525 towards Eglwys Cross. Take the exit onto the A539 Station Road, then continue to A528 Pen-Y-Lian Street. The clinic is located on the right on High Street.

Driving from Ellemere:

follow the A528 Grange Road. At the end of Salop Road, at a crossroads, turn left on to Pen-Y-Lian Street. The clinic is located on the right on High Street.

Driving from Wrexham:

follow the A525 towards Marchwiel. Take a right onto the A528 Overton Road, then continue on to Wrexham Road. The clinic is located on the left on High Street.

Shrewsbury

Head southeast taking the Shrewsbury Road to the A5. Remain on the A5, at the roundabout take the second exit and continue on the A5. There will be a further six roundabouts, take the second exit on all and continue on the A5. After the Bayston Hill roundabout, remain in the left lane and take the A458 slip road. At the junction turn left on the A458, at the roundabout take the second exit, then take the first right turn after the roundabout, Newmedica is on the right and parking can be accessed by taking the third exit at the mini roundabout. Approximately 28 minutes, traffic dependent.

Driving from Telford:

Head west on the M54, merge on to the A5 and continue on the A5 until Emstrey Island roundabout. Take the third exit on to the B4380, then at the next roundabout take the third exit on to Sitka Drive. At the next roundabout take the first exit on to Anchorage Avenue, continuing to the mini roundabout where you take the first exit and enter the parking area for Newmedica on the right. Approximately 15 minutes.

Driving from Whitchurch:

Head south towards Heath Road, at the roundabout take the second exit to the A49. Continue on the A49 until Preston Island roundabout, take the second exit on to the A5. Continue on the A5 until Emstrey Island roundabout, then take the third exit on to the B4380. At the next roundabout take the third exit on to Sitka Drive, at the next roundabout take the first exit on to Anchorage Avenue and continue to the mini roundabout where you take the first exit and enter the parking area for Newmedica on the right. Approximately 31 minutes.

Driving from Wrexham:

Head southwest on the A5152, turn at the first exit on to the A483, then take the second exit at the Halton roundabout, the Chirk Bypass/A483/A5. Continue following the A5 for approximately 31 miles. After the Bayston Hill roundabout, remain in the left lane and take the A458 slip road. At the junction turn left on the A458, at the roundabout take the second exit, then take the first right turn after the roundabout. Newmedica is on the right and parking can be accessed by taking the third exit at the mini roundabout. Approximately 42 minutes.

By bus

Overton, Wrexham

There are stops nearby within a one or two-minute walk for the 146 bus service

Shrewsbury:

If a bus from the station is preferred the 436, X5 or X4 are all suitable. The quickest and easiest to take is the 436. The 436 starts at the same destination as the others. After 10 stops, get off at the bus layby (just after the Co-op), walk back up the road where the bus came down, turn right at the first junction and Newmedica will be on the right. This route will take approximately 17 minutes.

The X5 requires a 4-minute walk from the train station to the bus station on Raven Meadows Road. From the station you will need to follow the road (A458) crossing the larger road (A5191). On crossing the road, Al Piccolino will be on the left side of the road. Keep following this road and turn left on to Raven Meadows (The Alb should be on the corner). Raven Meadows is where the main bus terminus is found. The X5 is heading south and there are 13 stops. Get off at Knightsbridge Close Junction and it is a 7-minute walk from there. Once off the bus, continue down the road until you see a Fuelcare, then turn right just before Fuelcare. There should be a footpath leading to Sitka Drive roundabout, continue straight until the second roundabout, then turn right at the roundabout on to Anchorage Avenue. Follow this road and at the third roundabout continue straight. Newmedica will be on the left side of the road shortly after this roundabout. This route takes approximately 21 minutes.

The X4 starts at the bus terminus and finishes at Emstrey Island after 10 stops. This requires heading back the way the bus came and following the same route as the X5 walk. Once at the Fuelcare, take the right just after Fuelcare. This routes takes approximately 23 minutes.

Where will I have treatment?

Initial consultation will take place at our clinic in Overton, Wrexham or Shrewsbury with treatment at our surgical centre in Shrewsbury.

Do you do NHS treatment?

We don’t currently offer NHS treatment in Wales.
