World sight day - 50% of sight loss is preventable: why regular eye exams matter

Did you know that half of all sight loss is completely avoidable? Regular eye examinations are a vital step in maintaining good eye health and can help detect serious conditions early on. These include sight-threatening issues like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, as well as systemic conditions such as high blood pressure.

At Newmedica, we’re driven by our mission to change lives through better sight and eye health. By working closely with community optometrists, we can manage and treat a wide range of conditions that affect vision. These include cataracts, glaucoma, and wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Jagdeep Singh, Optometrist and Head of Clinical Proposition at Newmedica, emphasises the importance of early detection:

“50% of sight loss is entirely avoidable, and regular eye examinations are essential to maintaining good eye health. They can help detect sight-threatening conditions like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy and even systemic conditions like high blood pressure.

At Newmedica, our core purpose is to change lives through better sight and eye health. We work closely with community optometrists to manage and treat a range of eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, and wet AMD, which are often first identified by optometrists in primary care.”

We take pride in providing a comprehensive range of ophthalmology care and treatments, tailored to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Whether it’s early detection or advanced treatments, we're passionate about improving sight and enhancing lives.
